Het project wordt gedragen door de vzw Friends of the Rainbow Schools en de partner in Cambodia Bridges Across Borders, daarom heeft het project ook een eigen naam, nl. Hand in Hand Cambodia.

The operational plan for 2010 is expected to address the prioritized community needs in the areas on livelihoods, education and health, while at the same time having a big focus on strengthening and empowering community partners. In the 2010 plan BABSEA encourages the community to take on more responsibilities in the implementation of activities, with continuous coaching and support from BABSEA.

2009 Annual Project Report
Submitted to Friends of the Rainbow Schools by Bridges Across Borders January 2010.
The past year was full of achievements and lessons learned for the Hand in Hand project, yet also was a year marked by a few tragedies and challenges.
Throughout 2009 the project took great steps forward in strengthening existing Community Based Organizations, as well as establishing new community groups in Chamcar Bei.
Om goed voorbereid aan de volgende fase van het project te kunnen beginnen, en eventuele gemaakte fouten in die volgende fase te vermijden, besloot de BABSEA leiding een onafhankelijke evaluatie te laten uitvoeren.
De studie spitst zich toe op volgende punten: doorlichting van het Hand in Hand-project in termen van doeltreffendheid, relevantie, sterke en zwakke punten, efficiëntie en duurzaamheid.
En ze formuleert concrete aanbevelingen op deze punten teneinde de gemeenschapsvisie, doel en objectieven te realiseren.

Klinkt wel leuk en hip, maar wat ben je ermee? Deze week is de Nederlandse Sarah Dobbe begonnen als de nieuwe Program Manager van het Hand in Hand project in Chamcar Bei. Wij laten haar graag zichzelf voorstellen:
Sarim is a 22 year old school teacher at the Chamcar Bai village Community Learning Centre (CLC). She comes from a rural background, being from a farming family of nine children. Sarim’s family was directly affected by the Khmer Rouge regime and her father was left with only one leg as a result. This made it difficult for him to do farm work, so his wife and children (including Sarim) had to spend much of their time working for their farming. Sarim says that before working at CLC she spent her days helping her family on the farm or cooking meals at home. Although at the time Sarim’s help was badly needed and important, she has since found a more fulfilling lifestyle working as an English teacher at CLC five days a week.
